Due to an online and fax service interruption taking place from August 21 to August 23, 2020, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office announced an additional extension of patent, trademark and industrial design deadlines falling between March 16, 2020 and August 28, 2020 to August 31, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. This is intended to be a final extension.
We note that the August 31, 2020 extension should not be relied upon for all deadlines, including filing deadlines to secure a priority date or the “grace period” related to public disclosures. We therefore recommend meeting all original deadlines where possible.
[Editor's Note: previous versions of this E-TIPS summary included now-past deadline extensions provided by the Office. Please see the Office update here for more information.]
